  After 15 plus years with Saratoga Medical Associates I had to pull the plug on being a patient. Over the past five years the front office staff quality has been degrading in key areas such as answering the phone properly and promptly and advising patients about out of network costs possibilities when seeing a provider practicing under my primary physician. Two cases in point have prompted my angry exodus from this practice. The first incident occurred almost 2 years ago now and is still unresolved. The incident involves seeing a PA practicing under my MD and receiving an out of network bill for services provided. The cruxt of the issue was submitting a claim with the wrong tax ID number and even after having Cigna call in on a call and talk the billing department through how to rebill under the correct tax ID the billing department still has yet to do so. The provider went so far as to tell me I have a deductible to meet which was simply not true as I went for services in the 3rd to 4th quarter of the year by which time my deductible was already met for in network providers of which the PA was supposed to be. Needless to say this saga is still as yet unfinished and I will probably be fighting this bill into perpetuity. The second incident which is the most egregious of the two notable incidents involved the office basically refusing me access to on call medical care because I had not yet had my physical. I calmly explained to them that per my insurance carrier if I have a diagnostic exam occur during my physical I am liable for the whole exam as it is no longer preventative care. The office manager tried to convince me otherwise and would not even consider having me come in for the urgent care need and have my physical scheduled for next week sometime. As a result I had to go to urgent care and wait for four hours during which I found a different primary care provider to go to for my future medical service needs. I am so disappointed in the degradation of services provided by SMA on the front end; the MD staff remain excellent though. As such, I hope that my primary care provider leaves to another ACO so that I can continue under him but I don't see that happening anytime soon and dealing with incompetent and pushy office staff is no longer tolerable for me.
  
  While Jennifer from the customer service department reached out to me regarding and smoothed things over to the point where I decided to schedule my physical with Dr. Gebhard, I found out that Dr. Gebhard had terminated my patient relationship with the practice. I find this decision to be retaliatory and capricious and based on that I will never recommend this practice or its doctors to anyone. The staffer who called me back was quite a obdurate quim. Good riddance and good luck with your practice. I can only hope that the improvements that I discussed with Jennifer will benefit future patients as they will not benefit me. Such a shame that the customer service people put so much work in behind the scenes only to have it wasted by obdurate staff and now obdurate doctors. It seems that the exodus of staff and physicians as of late is a sign of malcontent internally.
